How To Rank In Google

Google Ranking

Whatever strategy you focus on with your Internet marketing business, getting high organic search results is probably something important to you. Even if you focus on PPC to drive traffic to your website, free traffic is always desirable.

For most, SEO is as mysterious as it is elusive. The truth is, it is a skill like anything else, and it can be learned. So what is SEO? Search engine optimization is the process of optimizing your website so it looks good to Google and therefore gets a high rank. Now, that is a very simplified definition – I know. I am going to go over some of the basic principles, and if you have deeper questions, ask me right here on this blog. Ok?

Cool. There are so many things you can do to increase your ranking, some of which should be done even before you build your website. For instance, your domain name should contain your primary keywords, and ideally, nothing else. Once you have a domain name, build your website and add relevant content. Content is a key factor in SEO. Google wants to ensure that your web page will deliver the content that is being searched. You will need to use your keywords in your content, but not too much (to learn more about this subject, you will need to learn more about keyword density). Make sure you put a title on your web page (that is what shows in the blue bar at the top), and the title should be relevant and keyword rich.

The next part is linking. You need to have relevant, high quality links coming into you website. Google will look at the links you have coming in and judge them based on their value. Their value is determined based on the Page Rank of the website it is coming from, as well as the relevance of the site to your content.  Click here for a WordPress plugin that creates backlinks automatically.  Quality links come from quality websites with quality traffic relevant to your subject. Also be careful with link swapping – that technique has stopped working a long time ago. If you do have outbound links, make sure that they are relevant and going to quality sites as well. You can also choose to add a “no follow” tag to outbound links. Inbound links are better if they have relevant anchor text, but again, as long as the link is a quality link, you will be fine.

Lastly, you need to update your website often. If you don’t, you will watch your rankings begin to sink.

So get quality backlinks, have relevant content, and keep your site updated. You will begin to see your rank rise in Google!
