Success Through Failure

What the hell is failure anyway?  When I talk to different people I get different answers.  That means that we all have a different meaning for failure.  …and what we believe the definition to be can seriously influence our decisions to grow and move forward.  Do you want to hear my definition of failure?

Failure, according to Scott, is when you give up.  It’s pretty simple and straight forward.  Failure does not occur when you make a mistake.  No, failure is when you stop trying.  A mistake, to me, is merely education.  I hear people tell me all the time:  “you need to fail before you succeed”; or some variation of that.  C’mon people, let’s get real… the words we choose can have a huge impact on our thoughts, and our thoughts have a huge impact on our actions and results.  You don’t fail before you succeed, you learn before you succeed.  If you fail, you fail.  But we’re not here to talk about failing – we’re here to succeed.

Let me give you a real life example.  Let’s go back to the most basic of life’s lessons:  learning to ride a bicycle.  How many times did you fall before you succeeded?  Was each fall a failure or was each fall part of your education?  When you did fall, did you parents tell you that you were a failure?  Or did they praise you for trying?  Do you think the outcome would have been different if they called you a failure each time you tried?  You betcha!

So from now on in this journey for success, you do not fail – you simple learn when things do not go the way you want them to.  Look for the lesson from each fumble – it is there if you search hard enough.  Learn your lesson and try again.  Feel free to bring your lessons here and post them so others can learn from your mistakes too.

Remember, failure is not an option.  Never give up and you will get what you desire.  This post should really be named “Success Through Mistakes”.
