Persistence – Don’t Give Up!

I was sitting here thinking about what to write about today… what will you find most helpful?  I obviously cannot answer that because we are all at a different stage and we all have a different agenda.  So until you give me some direction regarding what you want to hear or learn about, I will share the ups and downs of my journey.

Today was a good example of some of the hurdles that come our way.  As you know, this blog is new… and I am not yet an expert with blogging – but I am sure learning fast!  This blog clearly needs some work to get it up to snuff, and depending upon when you read this, you will see what I am talking about.  So if you are reading this in the future, it probably looks pretty good.

My challenge today is to change the header.  The default header is just plain text, and it does not look professional at all.  This is seemingly easy… and by the way, it is easy if you know what you are doing!  For me, I am just learning, and so it takes a bit of time to gain the education.  I am not suggesting that you waste time… no no, not at all – more on that in the next posting (whew, now I know what to write about next!).

The point I am making is that obstacles come up all over the place in life, and building an online business is no exception.  Work through each obstacle instead of giving up.  It is human tendency to give up when the motivation wears off.  You know what I mean… we get motivated and all pumped up in a seminar, or in training, or whatever – but once that wears off we need to rely purely on will-power to get us through.  We need to keep pushing until we see a result.  Once there is a result from our efforts, we develop self-inspiration which translates in motivation.  Trust me, it gets easy (well, at least it gets easier).

Will-power is certainly easier if you have a passion for what you are doing.  For example, if your hobby is working on cars, you would probably be excited to take on a large project like rebuilding an engine – and you would be inclined to continue, to push through, in spite of all the obstacles that will inevitably come up.

Now let’s say you have little or no passion for what you are doing.  For instance, let’s say you want to lose weight and you are just not excited about eating boring food and working out at the gym.  So you go to a motivational seminar on losing weight, and you are all pumped up when you get home.  You go out and buy the foods you should be eating, you start your exercises, and guess what usually happens?  Shortly thereafter, you become discouraged and (as many people do) you give up.  That’s terrible!  Why does this happen?  If you break it down, it’s easy to see:  the motivation wore off, and your will-power was just not strong enough.  You need to have enough will to make it to the point of reaching results.  Now let’s say that you started to see real weight loss before you became discouraged.  Do you think that would make a difference?  You bet it would!  The problem is that it takes time to yield a result with weight loss – and the same can be true with a new online business.

Do you have a passion for your online business?  We know we can develop a passion once we see results, but do you have passion now?  There is a distinction between the passion and desire to have money and be successful, versus the passion and desire to build the business itself.  Those who have that passion have a much higher probability of being successful.  Those who don’t need to surround themselves with those who do.  The solution?  The first thing is to become active in this blog!  You see, that is my goal.  Let’s keep each other motivated (I am doing it anyway!), and lets get from point A to point B.  I, by the way, do have the passion for the building of the business, so stick around!  Now you can see why I call this a “journey”.
