How I Got Started In The Online Business

Let me tell you how I ended up in the online business.

After years in “conventional” businesses, I sold my most recent business (at that time) in 2003.  I really wanted to do some traveling and live a more relaxed lifestyle.  I decided to take a year off, and during that time I moved to South America (why not?).  This is when I started thinking about the online business.  I wanted a business that allowed me to travel and to live the way I wanted to live… a business that was automated which I can run and manage from any computer with Internet access.  And so the quest has begun.  I did not know anything about it, nor did I know how to go about it.  But I did know that I can figure it out if I wanted it bad enough.  And so I began my journey.

I am not going to bore you with all the details, after all this blog is about making money, but would like to briefly mention what was involved – you may be able to relate.  It was January 2004, and I searched the Internet for days on end trying to learn this business.  I did not know who was legitimate and who was trying to scam.  The deeper I dug, the more I found marketers trying to sell me bogus kits to get started.  Many did not even state what I would get out of it until after I paid.  It was nearly impossible for me to decipher what was real and what was not.  I decided to table this idea for a while and enjoy the South American lifestyle.

Still not knowing where to turn, and looking to generate cash flow, I went into another (conventional) business when I returned to the States.  I soon remembered why I wanted out in the first place, and decided to take another look at an online business.

Oh boy did I make mistakes!  I put up my first website in 2007.  It was intended to generate income through affiliate marketing.  Gosh – there is not one thing I did right, now that I look back on it.  Needless to say, it never made me one cent (but it sure cost me quite a bit).  Just to name a few things I did wrong:  choice of domain, hosting, web page development, product choice, keywords, layout and design, copywriting, SEO, and driving traffic.  These are just a few of the things I did wrong, but hey, in retrospect, I had very little knowledge.  I was clueless.

Recently, I started making money.  It’s not quite the money machine dream yet, but it is working and it’s time I share my knowledge and grow to the next level together.
